Dr. Kyle Jennette, PhD will present on how to differentiate mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and major neurocognitive disorder (e.g., dementia). Particular emphasis will be placed on differential diagnosis of cognitive impairment etiology, and the distinguishing characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease from other dementias. Through this CE, psychologist will understand when to refer to a specialist, learn care management and planning goals for family members of affected patients, and understand the behavioral characteristics of common dementia syndromes.
The law requires all healthcare providers At lease a one-hour Alzheimer’s training course that covers assessment, diagnosis, effective communications strategies and management and care planning for individuals who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This course must be provided by an approved Illinois continuing education sponsor.
The Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias training is required for all healthcare providers who hold a professional license issued by the Division of Professional Regulation (DPR).
The law requires licensees to complete a one-hour CE course in Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias training. This CE requirement is included in the number of hours already required under the individual Acts and Rules and does not increase the number of hours required to renew a license. If you are a licensed psychologist, you must complete this training before you renew your license at the end of September 2026. This one-hour training counts towards the twenty-four hours required for every two-year licensing period.
