Description

This webinar will provide an overview of implicit bias and its impact on clinical decision making and treatment outcomes. Experiential activities will cover implicit bias, positionality, and intersectionality. Participants will discuss and practice strategies to mitigate the effects of bias in clinical settings.

The law requires all licensed healthcare professionals to take at least a one-hour course in Implicit Bias Awareness Training.

Erin Alexander PsyD Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Erin Alexander is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. With over 20 years of clinical service, leadership experience and continued professional development. Dr. Alexander has held positions as a therapist, adjunct professor, supervisor, trainer, consultant, and professional mentor. She currently has a thriving practice in Downtown Chicago where she works with a diverse group of individuals, couples, and families. In addition to her practice, Dr. Alexander has worked as a Consulting Psychologist for DCFS since 2012. In 2017, Dr. Alexander was promoted to the Assistant Program Administrator position for the statewide Psychology & Psychiatry Program and as of 2019 Dr. Alexander assumed the role of Clinical Division Chief Psychologist and Psychology & Psychiatry Program Director.

Dr. Alexander is an active member of both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA). She is the Section on Ethnic Minority Affairs (SEMA) committee chair and serves as a member of IPA’s Legislative Committee. In 2019, Dr. Alexander was honored to have been nominated and selected to serve on the American Psychological Association’s Minority Fellowship Program Training Advisory Committee, where she selects, mentors, and provides advisory assistance to a talented group of psychology graduate students from across the country.

Dr. Blair Brown is a regional clinical director for LifeStance Health and licensed clinical psychologist who provides therapeutic and psychological testing services for children, adolescents, and adults. She oversees her region of outstanding clinicians and treats patients individually, as part of a couple, or as a family. Dr. Brown is the clinical sponsor for LifeStance's Illinois Chapter for DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) and facilitates the implicit bias training state-wide for her company. Dr. Brown is also the North-Central Regional Representative for the IPA and serves as one of the IPA Listserv moderators

Dr. Hayley Beth Van Serke (she/her) has a master’s degree in social work from UW Milwaukee and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She has worked in non-profit settings for over 20 years and recently opened her own private practice, Vibrant Minds, Inc. Her interests include emergency medicine, cognitive and behavioral approaches, trauma, 2SLGBTQ+ issues and health psychology. She adjuncts at Adler and The Chicago School. She has been the chair for the SOGD section of IPA for the past 3 years and is a member of the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Council at IPA.


Kim Sanders Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Kim Baker (Dr. Kim) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the CEO of KB Psychology. Dr. Kim received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2008. After obtaining licensure in 2009, she immediately began working in the long-term care setting, providing psychotherapy and assessment for older adults.

In 2015, Dr. Kim formed KB Psychology, a psychotherapy practice group that specializes in treating older adults in long-term care. She leads a team of social workers and psychologists in the psychological diagnoses and treatment of a range of different mental health conditions.

In response to the great mental health needs during the 2020 COVID pandemic, Dr. Kim launched “Mind Chats Online,” an online therapy service for Illinois residents. She divides her time between practice management, clinical practice, training, and consulting.

Dr. Kim is also actively involved in the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA) where she leads the Women’s Section in increasing awareness of gender disparities of all races, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, immigration, and socio-economic status. In addition, she is a member of the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Council, a newly erected task force of the IPA charged with advancing diversity training and competency amongst licensed clinical psychologists in Illinois
